For .com, .net, .org and most other extensions, a transfer needs an authorisation code (also called an EPP code) from your current registrar, and adds a year to the registration.
Before you start
- The domain must have been registered, or last transferred, more than 60 days ago.
- Switch off the transfer lock at your current registrar.
- Get the authorisation code from them.
- Check that the domain’s contact email address works, as some registrars send approval requests there.
Transfer it
- Start a transfer and enter the domain and its authorisation code.
- Pay the transfer invoice. Its price, on domain prices, includes the extra year.
- Most transfers complete within five days. The website and email keep working throughout.
